Why this site exists
Search for the Katla ice cave and you get seven listings that all show a cathedral of blue ice and all sound identical. None of them tells you, before you pay, that one operator takes children from 6 and another from 8, that the same cave costs $182.55 from Vík and $293.46 from Reykjavík, or that value for money is the lowest-scoring category on every one of those listings.
None of that is hidden. It is in the operators' own small print and in the review breakdowns GetYourGuide publishes. Putting it next to the price is the entire job of this site.
Where the facts come from
Prices, durations, ratings, review counts, group sizes and minimum ages are read off each operator's own GetYourGuide listing on the date shown on the homepage, in US dollars. Prices move with the season and the exchange rate, so treat them as the figure we saw rather than a quote.
Everything else is checked against a public source. The geology and the year-round season come from the operators who work Kötlujökull and from Perlan's and Guide to Iceland's accounts of the cave; the eruption history and monitoring from the Icelandic Met Office's published record of Katla; road and access conditions from road.is. Where an operator admits something inconvenient in its own words, such as the cave never matching its photographs, we quote it rather than smooth it over.
What we do not do
We do not inspect the cave, meet the guides or audit safety records. Judging whether a chamber in Kötlujökull is safe on a given morning takes a trained glacier guide standing in front of it, and that is a job for the company you book with.
We also do not take bookings, hold payments or make promises about a departure. Your contract is with the operator and the platform named on your confirmation. If a tour is cancelled, they refund you, and the 24-hour free cancellation window on every tour here is theirs, not ours.
How the site pays for itself
